Community Relations
Surface rights for much of the property area are controlled by the rural community of Huillque (population 544). Effective March 2, 2007, the Company entered into an agreement with the local landowners from the community for access to their territories. The agreement allowed the Company to build access roads, a camp and conduct exploration on the property.
The Company realizes that maintaining its stature as a proper corporate citizen is more than executing simple agreements. The Company is now staffed by an individual dedicated to all aspects of community relations. Cuervo, through the voices and actions of its professional personal at Minera Cuervo S.A.C., works continuously with the people of Huillque to discuss issues and assist them with matters of concern. As part of its program of exploration a road that allows vehicular access to the community was constructed. A vehicular bridge to cross the Rio Velille is under construction. Prior to completing its own dedicated exploration camp, Cuervo leased facilities within the community. Numerous members of the community have been, or continue to be, employed by the Company and its contractors in a variety of tasks including field exploration, drill-platform preparation, camp construction, logistics, day-to-day camp activities and environmental remediation. The Company supports a medical post and funds the services of doctors who visit the community, now on a regular basis. Veterinary services that have been requested by the community have been provided by the Company. Many community, especially educational, events are supported by the Company; almost half of the population of Huillque is under the age of 14.
